Members Association hosted 5 programs this year:
The Opening Retreat Breakfast kicked us off at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on Sept 7th where two study groups from the Class of 2023 talked about their projects centered on civil rights leader Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth.
In November, we hosted a screening of the film Shuttlesworth which included T. Marie King, Eric Essix, and J. Whitson talking about making of the film.
Cheryl Morgan (’08) also led a group on a History Walk on the Rotary Trail which ended with wine and cheese at her loft.
In January, we partnered with Leadership Alabama to host Birmingham: Building a Thriving City with Saving the City with documentarian Ron Blatman.
And in February we gathered at Innovation Depot for a Conversation with Howell Raines and John Archibald – two Pulitzer-prize winners talked about Howell’s book called “Silent Cavalry: How Union Soldiers from Alabama Helped Sherman Burn Atlanta – and Then Got Written Out of History.”
